  DFF SCOPE
RenderWare model and texture viewer for GTA San Andreas

GETTING STARTED
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Run DFF Scope.exe. Nothing to install.

The first launch takes a few seconds while the app unpacks itself, and
Windows SmartScreen may warn you about an unrecognised publisher. That is
normal for an unsigned tool - choose "More info", then "Run anyway".

Click "Open folder" (or press Ctrl+O) and choose a folder containing .dff
and .txd files. Every texture dictionary in the folder is indexed, which
takes a second or two for a large cache, and then the first model appears.

The folder you used last is remembered, so it opens straight back into it
next time. You can also drag a folder onto the exe to open that one.

FINDING THE RIGHT TEXTURES
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Download caches store files under hashed names, so you cannot tell which
.txd belongs to which .dff by looking at them.

DFF Scope solves this by reading the texture names stored inside both files.
When you select a model, the dictionary list is re-sorted so the best match
is at the top, with a score beside each one - "5/5" means that dictionary
contains all five textures the model asks for.

Most of the time the correct one is already applied. If it is not, press
W and S to step through the others.

The status bar along the bottom tells you what the model contains and, if
the current dictionary is incomplete, which textures are missing.

CONTROLS
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  MOUSE
Left drag ............ orbit the camera
    Right drag ........... pan
    Wheel ................ zoom

  MODELS AND TEXTURES
    A / D ................ previous / next model
    W / S ................ previous / next texture dictionary
    Ctrl+O ............... open a different folder

  VIEW
1 ... 6 .............. front, back, left, right, top, isometric
F .................... frame the model in the view
    T .................... wireframe on / off

If a model appears lying on its side, change "Up axis" in the panel. Models
do not agree on which way is up - buildings are stored Z-up, but ped
geometry lies along X. The viewer guesses from the shape of the model and
is usually right, but you can override it.

GOOD TO KNOW
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DFF Scope only reads. It never writes to, moves or modifies the files you
open, so there is no way to damage a model with it.

It is built for skins and map or object models. Multi-part models such as
vehicles are drawn without their frame transforms, so their separate parts
appear at the origin instead of assembled. Skinned models show their bind
  pose.

Collision files (COL) and animations (IFP) are not supported.

Requires Windows and a GPU supporting OpenGL 3.3 - anything made since
  about 2010.
